This update sees our characters travel a little further afield. And there's something in the air tonight...🎶

Upon hearing I was in San Myshuno, Charlotte invited me out to a bar - an upscale place atop an impressive high-rise structure with an astonishing view. Not the sort of place either of us tends to frequent. I was and still am unsure if this may be what humans call a “date”, but the prospect alone causes an unsettling fluttering sensation in my stomach region not dissimilar to Earth butterflies.

She then proceeded to pull me over to the main attraction of the bar: “karaoke”. A quick search on my portable phone supplied the interesting trivia that the word originates etymologically from the Japanese for “empty orchestra”, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened next.

Singing. Loudly. In public. I didn’t know the song but there were helpful words on a screen, flying by in time to the unfamiliar music. Everything else I was forced to improvise on the spot.

Due to my perfectionist nature, I think I may have taken it a little more seriously than intended, but I don’t mind, as it made Charlotte laugh. And I must admit, after the initial panic, I ended up actually enjoying it!

Next, under Charlotte’s supervision, I had a taste of a very peculiar machine indeed. The flavour was unlike anything I had ever tried before.

Planet Earth continues to surprise me in the most unusual ways.

Charlotte: About that convo the other day…
Mara: …
Charlotte: Conversation. That conversation.
Mara: Ah! Yes.
Charlotte: I wanna say sorry. I mean I didn’t do anything shitty per se but I’ve been… well. I’m not been 100% honest. About how I feel about you.

Mara: You… you have not?

Charlotte: (laughs nervously) Knowing me I’m probably gonna chicken out at the last moment.

Mara: ...I think I have an idea.

Charlotte: You do?!
Mara: (laughs quietly) I looked up your symptoms online.
Charlotte: My symptoms?
Mara: Your blush.
Charlotte: ...Oh. Oh.

I don’t know whether it was the exhilaration of the karaoke, the fire still bubbling away inside my chest, or the way the stars reflected in the calm surface of the swimming pool, a reminder of my distant home. Suddenly I felt brave enough to do something I have been thinking about doing for longer than I myself was aware.
